Comment on article regarding Planning Application at Skrinkle.

The website published Notes on the Manorbier Community Council meeting held on 2nd August 2007 which contained information on the now controversial Planning Application by the Pembrokeshire Housing Association for planning to build upon land at Skrinkle. A local resident, Mrs Gourley, has contacted the website and informed us that she has been in contact with the Child Commissioner for Wales who is interested in the case and would be making representation against the planning application on Human Rights grounds.

Whilst welcoming his/her thoughts on the subject perhaps the Child Commissioner could answer the following questions:-

1. In Pembrokeshire, and in Wales, we have a shortage of housing both private and rented sectors. As well as a continuing demand for homes, some marriage breakdowns partly due by financial pressures on families only increase the housing demand. However places to build are limited and the escalating cost of the land is a very important element of house prices.
In their wisdom perhaps he/she could define a recognised standard of play provision within a housing area / location?

2. Perhaps he/she would comment on the Welsh Assembly Government policy of requiring all Councils to identify and consider land suitable for development and for disposal of these areas of land at a reduced cost to housing associations for the construction of low cost housing both to rent and buy.

3. If he/she considers that the general population also have rights to try and secure a home for themselves and their families? The system we have now has failed a generation of those wishing to provide shelter for themselves and any future family they envisage because of the land cost element of house prices and the current restrictive planning policies adopted by the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park Authority.
