Mrs P Davis
Clerk to Manorbier Community Council
5 Windy Ridge

1st. April 2003
Dear Mrs. Davies
Further to the letter from Mr. Gerson Davies, dated the 12th of February 2003
was read out at the last community council meeting on the 4th of March 2003
He quotes in his letter that I might wish to appraise myself of the facts, incidentally
the word appraise is in fact incorrect, the word our director of education should have
used was "apprise", meaning: " make someone (including yourself) aware".
He has quoted that my letter to the community council was inaccurate and reflected a
fundamental misunderstanding of the issues that have been taken by the governing
body. I have in fact written to Mr Gerson Davies, inviting him to appraise (apprise),
me of the actions of the governing body however he seems somewhat reluctant to
answer my questions.
One of the questions I would have liked Mr Davies, to have answered was his
reference to appraise (apprise), myself as to the respective responsibilities of the
community council regarding this issue.
Therefore I would invite the community council to inform me in writing, as to what
the respective responsibilities of the community council are in relation to this issue.
The other question I asked Mr. Davies was his comments in respect of the personal
attacks and individual insinuations against whom?. I can only presume that he must
be referring to Councillor Griffiths, if this is the person who he has referred to then I
will attempt to put record straight.
I have never attacked her as an individual, I however have criticised her in her
capacity as the head of the school governors and as a county councillor and cabinet
member, she is paid in excess of £22,000 pounds a year of our council tax monies to
represent her constituents, therefore I think I have a perfect right to criticise her if I
think she does not carry out her responsibilities as I would expect.
Regarding the issue of a footpath from Jameston, I think she has failed in every
respect on this issue. She remarked in one of last years community council meetings
that she could not understand why Mr. Wales, was so concerned about the footpath as
he lived there for over twenty three years without comment. Can she not see her
failure as a county councillor, that after twenty three years of doing nothing, she has
left her self wide open to be criticised by concerned members of the public.
If she has a problem with any form of criticism from any persons, on any issue and
feels that it is a personal attack then she should consider her position and resign as a
county councillor.
Regarding my originally letter of the 6th of January of this year, I fully stand by my
original comments regarding the school governors non attendance at the site meeting
on the above date, I personally think it was most discourteous to our local MP Mr.
Nick Ainger, that they failed either to send any apologies or to attend this important
safety meeting.
However if the school governors feel that I have been unfair to them with my
criticism and comments, I would quite willing to meet with them and to discuss the
contents of my letter with them and to clarify any other inaccuracies on my part.
Yours Sincerely,
A.L. Wales
