1st April 2003

Mrs P Davis
Clerk to Manorbier Community Council
5 Windy Ridge
Manorbier
Tenby

Dear Mrs Davis

Further to councillor Pat Griffiths, letter dated the 18fh March 2003, that was read out at the last community council meeting on the 4th of march 2003. In which she states she is concerned about wild staterritnts being banned about in relation to routes to Manorbier school.

I presume she is referring to a safe route from Jameston village to the school, she has alleged that I have said that an officer of Pembrokeshire County Council, had said that nothing would be done about a safe route to school, until there had been a fatality, and that this is not what the officer said, and was a bizarre distortion of the truth. Councillor Griffiths, has therefore asked me to withdraw these unpleasant and inaccurate comments.

I think she may be somewhat disappointed that I am unable to withdraw these unpleasant and inaccurate comments, particularly as I have never ever said that the officer in question had made a reference to a death or fatality. Councilor Griffiths, seems to have become somewhat confused as to what was said, and by whom, this is hardly surprising as she had better things to do than attend the site meeting on the 6'h of January, of this year when the PCC, officers attended this meeting.

However, what I did say at the Manorbier community council meeting on the 4th of February, was that Mr. John Gobbie, had made a statement at the site meeting on the 6th of January, that it would have been useful if we were to have an accident in order to record a statistic, this would then give a higher priority in providing a safe route to school for the children of Jameston. If councilor Griffiths, has any doubts as to what he said, I would suggest she speak to the parents of Jameston, who reacted quite angrily to his comments.

I think councillor Griffiths, became confused at the meeting of the community council on the 4th of February, about the public participation session where an officer from Pembrokeshire Council, along with the Police who answered a number of questions relating to safety concerns on the A4139 road in which a concerned parent stated that "it would take somebody being seriously injured or killed before any action would be taken."

Therefore I would respectfully suggest that in future she makes sure that she apprise herself of the facts before she attacks me, and makes individual insinuations in reference to what I did not say.

Yours Sincerely,

A.L. Wales.
