Pembrokeshire County Council Great changes have been made in local government of Wales. From 1st May new political arrangements came into effect for local authorities across the Principality. In common with most other Welsh councils, Pembrokeshire County Council established an executive body made up of a Leader and Cabinet. Under this system, Councillors electe one Councillor to become the Leader. The Leader appoints a Deputy Leader and a group of Councillors to serve on the Cabinet. These selected Councillors have a designated 'Assigned Roles and Responsibilities'. The Cabinet and Leader meet regularly to the make important decisions about implementing policies for the provision of services. Councillors who do not serve on the Cabinet could become members of the 'Overview and Scrutiny Committees' which monitor and can challenge decisions made by the Leader and Cabinet.
