St. Florence Notebook 2009 St Florence Community Council fails to meet. The St Florence community council failed to meet for its monthly meeting on Monday 9th March and left members of the public and one community councillor very angry waiting in the rain. The community councillor informed members of the public that although he had received minutes for the meeting he was unaware of any cancellation, as neither the clerk nor chairperson Mrs Del Evans had relayed any message on to him. Mr Griffiths informed members of the public that he had just phoned her house and had been informed that she had gone to French (it is presumed French lessons). Website Comments A full explanation is required from Mrs Evans as to why she left members of the public and her fellow councillor Mr Griffiths waiting in the rain as surely she should have had the courtesy to inform him and the community of any cancellation. By their non appearance the rest of the council either had no intention of attending the meeting or had been informed it had been cancelled. Mrs Evans has been a community councillor for many years and she should have realised by now that she has a duty to open the arranged meeting and close it if too few councillors turn up for it to be quorate. One of the other councillors could have acted as the proper officer for the meeting. This is a total disregard by Mrs Evans of the community which she represents as a councillor. Over the last few months there have been many resignations from the community council leaving it in a position that it was unable to form a quorum and therefore no meetings took place for several months. The only remaining members left from the start of the new council in May, when no election took place are Cllr Griffiths, Nixon and Evans. It must be remembered that St Florence Community Council is financed by the residents of St Florence who do not have any choice but contribute. One wonders if the community council would survive if the community charge was voluntary or the threat of a prison sentence removed for non payment.
