St. Florence Notebook - Community Council Meeting
- 21st May 2007

St Florence Clerk resigns her position.

Mrs Geraldean Videan presented St Florence councillors with her letter of resignation at the council meeting held on 21st May 2007. The reason given by Mrs Videan was that she intended to spend more time with her husband travelling in their motor home. Cllr Wolveson criticised his fellow councillors and intimated that Mrs Videan had reached her decision because councillors had not given her enough support and all they had done was turn up at meetings once a month and did nothing else.

Cllr Wolveson failed to realise that the council clerk is a paid position whilst the role of community councillor is voluntary. The role of councillors is to see that decisions are taken in an open and accountable way and that any work needed to be carried out should be tendered for in an open and accountable manner with set procedures. At the previous council meeting councillors had questioned reports placed on this website about their meetings. However their meetings are open to the press and public who are free to reveal what took place and any decisions reached.

At the meeting the clerk had reported that she had received an e-mail from someone questioning the statements to the Tenby Observer regarding the minutes of the previous meeting. Cllr Calver asked for the address of the person sending the e-mail to which the clerk replied "I do not know if I can give you the e-mail address", Cllr Calver then informed her that any correspondence read out in the meeting, which was after all a public meeting, had to be disclosed. She reluctantly asked other councillors if she could release the information. The clerk is the legal adviser to the council and should have therefore been aware that the information requested by Cllr Calver should be released.

The council accepted her resignation and would be advertising the position in the Tenby Observer.
